The East Harris County Emergency Communications Center  serves as a vital link between the residents of East Harris County and the first responders who protect our communities. As the region’s emergency communications hub, the center receives and processes emergency calls and coordinates rapid response from fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies. 

Highly trained dispatch professionals work around the clock to ensure that every call for help is handled quickly, accurately, and professionally. By gathering critical information and communicating directly with emergency personnel in the field, the communications center helps ensure that first responders arrive prepared to provide lifesaving assistance.

Through advanced technology, professional training, and a commitment to public safety, the East Harris County Emergency Communications Center plays an essential role in protecting lives and property throughout our communities.

East Harris County Emergency Communications Center (ECOM) provides regional call handling and dispatch for Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services agencies. ECOM is an independent, secondary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) under a Joint Power’s Board of Harris County Emergency Services Districts 2, 6, 12, 50 & 60.

Calling 911: What You Need to Know

A few key details can make a big difference in how quickly emergency responders reach you.

When you call 911, every second counts. The dispatchers at the East Harris County Emergency Communications Center are trained to gather information quickly so the appropriate emergency responders can be dispatched immediately.

If you need to call 911, try to stay calm and be ready to provide: 

  1. The exact location of the emergency.
  2. Describe what is happening.
  3. Tell the dispatcher if anyone is injured or in danger.
  4. Follow any instructions given.
  5. Stay on the line until the dispatcher says you may hang up

Even if help has already been sent, the dispatcher may continue asking questions to assist first responders and keep you safe until they arrive.
